The Green Cone TM system is not a new product. Invented in the UK it has been used all over the world for many years. In 1989 the system was patented in Canada and the United States. Green Cones have been sold to government agencies, private companies, universities, and individual customers throughout the United States.

Here are some examples of current Green Cone TM use and consideration in Europe (Great Britain in particular) and the U.S.
The City of Seattle, realizing the advantage of disposing of food wastes apart from municipal waste systems, has promoted the sale of Green Cones. During one promotion many thousands of Cones were sold in one day. A number of major cities in Oregon, Washington and Wisconsin are currently planning trials with the belief that Green Cones may have an important role in their waste treatment strategies.

Spain has had problems reducing the amount of household waste being sent to landfill sites. Green Cones are now under evaluation with 16 regional and municipal authorities. A field trial has started in one municipality in Catalunya which handles the waste for 4 million people. The Andalucian Government, where 7 million people live, has also begun to evaluate the Green Cone.

In Italy the regional government of Varese is evaluating Green Cones as a way to reduce biological waste from its disposal system. Currently biological waste from the authority is transported more than 300 kilos for disposal and the residents of the province refuse to allow the construction of further composting plants.

Waste disposal has always been a problem for the Orkney Islands. Much of their waste must be sent to the mainland for processing and, in some cases, it has been sent to the incinerator on the Shetlands. A successful trial of Green Cones in the late 1990’s, prompted the Islands' Council to make Green Cones an important part of the Islands’ waste policy. During 2005, 3,500 units were delivered to the Islands where they have been  made freely available to the residents. The Council has a dedicated team of people to inform the residents how to install and use the Green Cones.

East Sussex County Council believes in the benefits of Green Cone usage enough to offer them to County residents at a discounted rate of £24.95 (Normal selling price £66.90) at garden centers throughout the County.

The NE Master Composter Programme in Scottland is promoting Green Cone usage throughout Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray. The project now has over 70 volunteers who are establishing a support network across the area to establish composting and waste minimization.

Kent County Council is about to enter a 12 month trial with approximately 150 Green Cones. The volunteers chosen have agreed to provide regular data and other feedback regarding their use of the cone. The trial is aimed at demonstrating how the Green Cone deals with food waste in a cross section of typical households in the county.
