Like many households we were always looking for an environmentally friendly way to dispose of our food waste. Being eco-friendly we also wanted to keep our trash cans odor free and reduce our household waste.
Operating a bed and breakfast inn created additional food waste and more leftovers and food scraps to get rid of. Feeding our dog table scraps was a solution, but we got an overweight dog in return. We would throw leftover fruits, vegetables and eggs shells in the compost pile and animals would find a quick meal and create a mess in our yard.
We needed a solution to rid ourselves of leftover food wastes. We researched composters used for gardens and found that they are not really made to dispose of cooked foods, bones, even pasta due to the design. We needed a composter that used heat from the sun to degrade the food contents and also something that favored an aerobic/oxygen environment to accelerate natural decomposition. We needed a solution that kept the food waste underground to eliminate odors that our dog and other wild animals would sense.
